Selection factors

  • Choose pellet diameter from airflow, bed depth, acceptable pressure drop and mechanical handling conditions.
  • Provide the full gas composition, contaminant concentration, humidity and temperature before selecting activity.
  • Use CTC or butane working capacity for suitable VOC duties and a breakthrough-capacity test for reactive gases such as H2S.
  • Specify an impregnant only after contaminant chemistry, safety, disposal and service-life requirements are reviewed.

Pellet Activated Carbon purchasing questions

Diameter depends on airflow, bed depth, pressure-drop limit and mechanical handling. Four millimeters is common, but the equipment design should control the final selection.

Selected KOH, NaOH, KI, sulfur and other treatments can be reviewed for specific contaminants. Chemistry, safety and performance requirements must be confirmed before quotation.

CTC is common, but some projects use butane activity, butane working capacity, H2S breakthrough capacity or an application-specific test instead.
